Solaro is one of those IYKYK fabrics: a cult textile inspired by turn-of-the-century Western colonists in the tropics. It turns out that the native tribes there didn't really wear clothes with red linings to protect their skin from the sun — that's a myth — but it's a myth that yielded a pretty cool cloth. The warp yarns are red, which gives it an iridescent, chameleon-like finish, especially in the sun. A very special riff on the simplest tailored piece we've got. The Ghost is the blazer Sid's been wearing twice a week since it launched. In fact, it's one of “[his] favorite things we've ever made.” It's totally unstructured and stripped down with no lining, no darts, pickstitched spalla camicia shirtsleeve construction, and these crazy, almost Surrealist-feeling buttons made of unlacquered brass. The pockets on the front are special, too: we designed them so that you can tuck in the flaps (without looking like you just tucked in the flaps) for a more open look. Fit-wise, it's slim but still easy, just like our other jackets. Slip it on (or take it off and hold it up to the light) and you'll see why we call it the Ghost... it's so lightweight that it feels like wearing nothing at all. Bonus: we made a pair of matching dress trousers, so you can wear both pieces together as a suit.

GOOD TO KNOW

This jacket comes unfinished, which means it needs to be tailored before you wear it! Specifically, the sleeves are unhemmed, without cut buttonholes, at the time of purchase. Your local tailor can hem them to your perfect length and attach the buttons (we include six — three for each sleeve — in the pocket of the jacket.) If you’re near one of our stores, our in-house tailors can also take care of this.

We organize our tailored clothing into different levels of makes, similar to the way some German automakers have different series of cars.

No. 1

Our sportiest, most casual make — unconstructed, with no canvas at all. The knockaround.
No. 2

Our “easy” make, refined yet relaxed, with a lightweight, single-layer canvas. The basic.
No. 3

Our “house” make and the one that started it all, with a structured, 3-layer canvas. The workhorse.

Our sarto make, with more handwork and a more natural, lightweight-yet-dense 2-layer canvas. The upgrade.
