Why MTM
A made-to-measure piece will be the best-fitting garment in your closet... because it’s literally been made for you.
Our MTM product is held to the same exacting standards as our ready-to-wear, with all shirting made in Honduras with 22 stitches/inch and single-needle stitching, and all tailored made in Italy with a natural shoulder and full canvas construction — for us, the sine qua non of tailoring.
MTM offers way more options than what you see in stock. Same fabric, but patch pockets vs. flap? Button-down collar instead of spread? A glen plaid flannel that (almost) no one else is going to have? We bring in new swatches every season and keep a stable of tried-and-true favorites, so you can create something that’s truly your own.
We create a pattern that’s customized to your body measurements and designed to fit you beautifully. And there are real people shepherding your order through from start to finish. Our master tailor reviews every single pattern before sending to our factory in Italy, and we hand-spec each finished garment once it lands.
Even after your garment lands, we’re with you every step of the way. Whether in person or over Facetime, we’ll take a look and arrange for any necessary tweaks in the tailor shop to make sure you love it. We really believe in taking care of people, so we’ll work with you until it’s right.
Not only are our fabrics sourced from the finest mills all over the world, they’re also hand-selected and vetted to death... Sid goes through thousands of swatches each season to whittle it down to the best. And our other materials — horsehair canvas; Bemberg lining; German interlining; corozo, horn, and Trocas shell buttons — are second to none.
Custom clothing is a luxury, but we don’t want it to be out of reach. Our MTM pricing is set with approachability in mind, so for not much more than an off-the-rack item, you can have a piece of clothing made just for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics
With our Made-to-Measurement program, we produce a garment using your individual body measurements and personal preferences, rather than a stock pattern… basically a one-off made just for you. With MTM, you’re able to customize the fit, the fabric, the features, or some combination of the three.
We offer MTM shirts, jackets, trousers, suits, tuxedos, and topcoats. MTM shirts can be purchased online, but for tailored clothing (suits, jackets, trousers, tuxedos) you’ll need to visit one of our shops or come see us On the Road. Depending on the item you’re looking to make, we can sometimes accommodate MTM tailored orders from afar — contact us for more details.
Well, you might not! An MTM garment is not necessarily better than an off-the-rack piece. Both options include the same high-quality construction, materials, and value as the rest of our line. The most common reason people go with MTM is for fit. It’s a great option if your body doesn’t fit neatly into a stock size we offer — barrel chest, sloped shoulders, long arms, whatever. Or if you need mismatched sizes in a suit (for example, a 50 jacket with a 48 trouser.) Or if you wear a Short or Long jacket and want a seasonal piece that we only made in Regular. Basically, if there’s some way the fit could be improved, you’re probably a good candidate for MTM. Another draw is the increased set of options, both with materials and design elements. It gives you more possibilities beyond what you see available on the floor or online. It could be as simple as saying “this shirt, but with this collar,” or as complex as starting from scratch and selecting everything on your own. We bring in new fabrics every season and keep our favorites on hand 365 days a year, so again… you’ve got lots of options. Think of it as an opportunity to get creative without the risk of going off the rails.
Shirting
You can order online, come into a store, or visit us at one of our On the Road trunk shows. You can also book a virtual appointment with us and we’ll walk you through the process.
MTM shirts start at $175 and go up from there, depending on the fabric you select.
About 15 minutes, although we can speed it up if you’re in a hurry.
No; in fact, we recommend starting with just one so that you can dial in the fit. You can still place an order for multiple shirts if it’s your first time doing MTM. We will start with the first shirt, then send it to you and ask you to confirm the fit before we make the rest. Once you give us the all-clear, we’ll process the remaining shirts in your order.
MTM shirts land within 3-4 weeks for all in-house fabrics (the ones you see online,) and 6 weeks for specialty fabrics that are only available in stores. You can always get a status update on your MTM order by reaching out to us.
The Standard is our default fit, and the one that most of our stock shirts have. We describe it as “slim but not skinny.” The Slim fit has a trimmer body and sleeve and a slightly higher armhole, while the Supra has a fuller body and sleeve and a more generous armhole. On a size Medium shirt, compared with the Standard fit… The Slim fit is 1½” smaller in the chest and hip, 1 3/8” smaller in the waist, ¾” smaller in the bicep, and 5/8” smaller in the armhole. The Supra fit is 2” larger in the chest and hip, 1 5/8” larger in the waist, 1 3/8” larger in the bicep, and, 1 ¾” larger in the armhole.
Our shirts are made at a family-owned co-operative in Honduras that has been running for nearly a century, where we have our own dedicated line.
We’re big proponents of washing at home. We recommend machine-washing on cold, hang-drying, and ironing by hand, although our shirts can also be dry cleaned. If you use starch, we suggest as little as possible, since it can degrade the fabric over time.
Not very much. We build shrinkage into our pattern, and you should notice only the slightest difference in the way your shirt fits after laundering, whether you’re taking it to the dry cleaner or washing it at home.
Once you’ve made your first shirt, we will keep your measurements and pattern on file. When you’re ready for more, all you need to do is tell us what you want. (If you have a change in weight or physique to the degree that your original shirt no longer fits, we recommend getting re-measured.)
We will take care of it until you are satisfied. If you receive your shirt and are not happy with it, the first step is to reach out to us so that we can assess what’s going on. Sometimes all it takes is a spin in the washer and dryer to get it right; other times it might require an alteration or a remake. In that event, we can turn around new-and-improved shirts in about two weeks. As with all our products, we want you to love it, and we’ll do what it takes to make that happen.
Tailored Clothing
In most cases, you’ll have to visit one of our stores or come see us On the Road. Unfortunately we’re not able to measure for MTM tailored clothing remotely. However, there are two situations in which MTM orders from afar are possible: If you already know that our tailored clothing fits you well, we can make a one-off stock size and tailor it once it arrives (in the same way as we can with off-the-rack tailored pieces). Or, we can also use your existing pattern if you’ve ordered an MTM piece from us in the past and it still fits well. We have extra fabric yardage of many of our stock tailored pieces, so if you see an item online that you’d like to order as an MTM piece, reach out to us to inquire about fabric availability. We can often accommodate these kinds of orders remotely, especially if you’re just looking for a stock size or you’ve placed MTM tailored orders with us before. This is also a great option if we no longer have your size available.
Jackets start at $1895, suits start at $2295, topcoats start at $1995, trousers start at $595, and tuxedos start at $2595. Pricing is based on the fabric and level of make (No. 3, No. 4, No. 5) that you select. In other words, features like buttons, lining, pockets, etc. don’t affect the price.
About 30 minutes, although we can speed it up if you’re in a hurry.
The entire process typically takes 8-10 weeks from when the order is placed. Once the finished garment reaches us — usually within 6-8 weeks — we’ll have you come in to try it on in our tailor shop. From there, we’ll finish the sleeves and make any final adjustments or alterations. This usually takes another 2 weeks, but since the alterations are completed in our tailor shop, we can work with you on the timeline and move your piece up in the queue if you need it sooner. You can always get a status update on your MTM order by reaching out to us.
All of our MTM tailored pieces are made in Italy.
We do offer a truly bespoke tailored option that goes one step further than our standard MTM program. With this, for an additional one-time charge, you can have your pattern designed by hand by our Master Tailor. This gives you a totally custom pattern that can be applied to any future garments. It’s a super-special, in-depth process — for more information, reach out to us.
MTM tailored clothing is available in our fully canvassed No. 3 make, our semi-handmade No. 4 make, and our fully handmade No. 5 make. Our No. 1 (e.g. Ghost, Butcher) and No. 2 makes are not currently available for MTM, but can be purchased off the rack and altered for a more customized fit.
