Handsewn Penny Loafer Black Spazzolato Calf

Regular price $350

From Norwegian day-laborers to preppy college kids, the quintessential penny loafer has come a long way... while mostly remaining exactly the same. It's become an American classic, and true to form, it's one of the easiest shoes in the world to wear — not too fashion-y, not too fussy, and it'll probably look great with 75% of your closet. Ours is handsewn in Portugal — in fact, one hour of hand-stitching goes into each pair — with moccasin construction and a slightly higher vamp for an especially comfortable fit. This one in particular is made from a special spazzolato calfskin — you might also know it as “corrected grain” — which takes its name from the Italian word for 'brushed'. It's made using a special heat-burnishing technique that creates a closed pore structure and a high-shine effect similar to shell cordovan. In black calf, they lean a bit more more formal than your average pair of handsewns, so they can be dressed up with a suit or dressed down with a pair of jeans.

Why we love it

  • made by hand
  • made in portugal
  • quietly special

"We don’t do a ton of black shoes, so these are special. The leather has a natural shine to it, and the handsewn has a classic yet updated look for a penny loafer. I wear these with everything from shorts to dress trousers."
