Trudon is the world's oldest candlemaker still in business. From the champagne-bucket-inspired glass housing to the gilded plaque on the front, and even the deo regique laborant motto ("[the bees] work for God and the King"), everything about the brand is luxurious. This scent is both floral and fierce, an homage to 17th-century fencer Madeleine de Maupin. It combines heart notes of jasmine and iris with a base of leather and moss. A really special gift.
Pro tip: the first time you light a candle, let it burn for 2-3 hours, or until the whole surface is liquid. Wax has muscle memory, and this trains it to burn evenly and last as long as possible. You'll also want to get in the habit of trimming the wick to 1/4" before lighting to prevent tunneling and excessive smoking.
