Silk shantung has a light weight and a subtle shimmer that makes it great for dressing up. (That said, Ann loves it as a day-to-night fabric for more casual wear.) It’s an especially popular choice for MTO pieces around the holidays and special occasions because it can really elevate a simple shirt or dress silhouette. This one is woven in India — they know their stuff when it comes to silk — and has a lovely texture with just a hint of slub. The iridescence is achieved by combining different colors in the warp and weft threads (here, it's orange and magenta,) which together create a shade that seems to shift before your eyes. It’s hard to capture the luster of the material through a digital screen, but trust us when we say that it catches the light beautifully in real life. Note: Customers almost always go up one size from their usual in silk shantung MTO pieces since it has less “give” than our cotton fabrics.
