For a lot of people, Diptyque makes the quintessential “status candle”: storied, French, and housed in a glass cup that's beautiful enough to have a second life as a desktop pen holder long after the wax is gone. It also smells pretty fantastic. In short, the hype is real. Pomander is spicy and zesty and a little holiday-ish, with notes of candied orange peels and cloves. The fragrance is great on its own, but Diptyque also suggests layering scents by lighting a couple of varieties at once for a more complex, that-smells-so-good-but-what-is-it effect. This one pairs nicely with Feu de Bois.
Pro tip: the first time you light a candle, let it burn for 2-3 hours, or until the whole surface is liquid. Wax has muscle memory, and this trains it to burn evenly and last as long as possible. You'll also want to get in the habit of trimming the wick to 1/4" before lighting to prevent tunneling and excessive smoking.
