agents in Tuscany and kind of known as the gold standard of biscotti throughout the country. The Antonio Mattei factory has been operating since 1858 and run by the same family since 1904, making super-simple biscuit cookies with only wheat flour, sugar, free-range eggs, almonds, and pine nuts. They're delicious enough that we've been stocking up on every trip to Italy for years. This variety is a relatively recent creation that's made with the same dough as the originals, just with dark chocolate chunks instead of almonds or pine nuts. Dip in coffee, break out a bag for snack hour in the office, serve for a fun holiday breakfast, eat for dessert. (AM recommends pairing with port, marsala, or sherry.) And they come in a beautiful, iconic bright blue bag — when we say 'iconic' we mean that Blu Mattei is a registered and trademarked color — so they make a great host gift. You don't even need to wrap it.
